COURSE DESCRIPTION

There's a mosaic renaissance happening today in the world of public art and building decoration. Mosaics are an ideal art form for creating large works of permanent public art. Groups and communities often work together to create mosaic murals for interior and exterior walls. Work with Boston muralist and mosaicist Joshua Winer to learn all the steps involved in creating a mosaic mural, starting with design, then creating the actual mosaic working with a range of mosaic materials and methods. Materials include ceramic tile, glass mosaics, and mixed permanent media like shells and stones. Installation will be done with thin-set mortar. The mosaic will be finished with a range of hand-colored grouts. This class is suited to artists with the following interests: painting, ceramics, architecture, interior design.
